So I've decided to. . .

Cut my locs!!  Not right away but by the end of the year.  Don't panic.  It's just hair and it will grow back.  And don't worry, I'm NOT going to perm it.  So here's the plan: I'm waiting til I have a break from work (Thanksgiving break or Christmas break) to cut my hair to no shorter than 7 inches, an inch for every year I've been natural (I know that's corny, but hey). I'm not going to retwist my hair and I'll probably wear curls until then.  I plan to comb out the loced ends after it's been cut.  Then I plan to rock my free natural for a little while. Why, you ask?  Because of this:
I have several patches of loose hair all over my head.  I haven't lost any locs that I'm aware of.  So I think it's a sign that I need to 'let my hair loose.'  I've never had this much loose hair between the locs before so I figure it's time to cut it.  I wanted to wait til my hair was longer but I feel like I'm watching paint dry; nothing's happening.  Maybe it's a pre-midlife crisis; maybe it's a bipolar moment, who knows?  But I do know that I'm ready for a drastic change.  So it's coming off.  And the only reason I'm waiting to cut it is because I need time to comb out the loced ends.  If I could get it done over a weekend, I would do it this weekend.
So then what?  Well, I plan to wear my hair loose for a few months and start new locs no later than next August.  It may be sooner depending on maintenance requirements of this new loose hair. I plan to start my new locs thicker and with 2 strand twists. I'm excited!!  I plan to take tons of pictures and try many different styles.  I will definitely keep you posted.

Til next time, thanks for reading.  Be blessed

Finally....a post!!

So I've finally done something with my hair that I wanted to post about.  I've just been wearing my hair straight lately.  I washed my hair on Saturday and decided to do a braidout.  I took the braids out last night while watching football (because I knew it would take forever if I waited til this morning).  Here's how it turned out.

I like the results.  My coworkers and students all tried to figure out how I did my hair like this.  They didn't  seem to notice the braids yesterday, I guess because I had them pulled back in a ponytail.  Anyway, I'll probably try something else next weekend for my birthday.  Stay tuned.

I also want to tell you about my little side hustle.  My BFF Kenya has distributed some of the homemade gel I use to retwist my hair.  She uses it for her twist outs and has told some of her natural coworkers about it.  She let them try some from the jar I gave her and they all liked it.  They want to buy some!!  So I've been making hair gel.

It's nothing fancy (as you can see) but it's a quick way for me to make a few bucks every so often.  I have a 8 oz tub for $10 and a 4 oz for $6.  I won't tell you all my ingredients/proportions but I will say that honey gives it the yellow color.  If you're interested in trying some, let me know and we'll work something out.  I might even decide to do a giveaway for my faithful followers.

Til next time, thanks for reading.  Be blessed.  And thanks for hanging in there with me (I even have new followers).  Love ya!!
